We send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Professor Sir Geoff Palmer KT OBE who sadly passed away on 11 June 2025, aged 85.
Sir Geoff was an enthusiastic supporter the KDMedia team and our work to create the Scottish Beer Awards in 2016.
In 2018, we were proud to work with Professor Dawn Maskell in presenting Sir Geoff with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his work as a brewing scientist, leading academic and Professor Emeritus and Chancellor of Heriot Watt University. A trailblazer, a humanitarian and academic, Sir Geoff was known worldwide for his work, helping to put Edinburgh on the map as a centre of brewing excellence.

He was incredibly passionate about the talent that exists in Scottish brewing and was very proud of his students who went on to forge successful careers making great beer. His charisma and intellect, combined with a talent for a great story, made him sparkling company and I will miss him. My condolences go to his family and the brewing community in Scotland who were fortunate enough to have known him.”
